Ignore your recently pierced ears for days, meaning forgetting to put in earrings. Fast forward about a week, the hole is almost completely grown together, with just a small cavity where it used to be. Being incredibly cheap as I am, I refuse to have it pierced again. I just took out two ice cubes from the freezer, numbed my ear, dipped my earring in some alcohol and pierced it through. It was excruciatingly painful.

Okay, I'm going to cut to the core here. The dress on the far left is up there with sliced bread, the iPad, the wheel, and After Eight in terms of defining the lives of humans. Seldom have I seen Miuccia Prada's design interpreted so flawlessly for the high street (many have tried, oh, how they have tried). I need it. I'm not kidding with this. I will kill people to get it if that's what it takes. You think "But hey, will Emma kill me for that dress?" The answer to that is yes. And I'll do it with a spoon, if necessary.

As for the other items? I will only kill animals (not cute ones) to have them. But still, they're up there.

Red dress on the left is pretty much ideal for parties this summer. It makes me miss a time when I could feel my toes and my eyeballs didn't freeze.

So, everyone is pretty much shitting themselves with outrage at this pillow by Jonathan Adler for Kirna Zabête. Obviously, the quote can be interpreted as condoning anorexia nervosa (it is originally a Kate Moss quote). But honestly, I think putting it in needlepoints is the best thing you could ever do to ridicule the quote (Anyone who has had lasagna knows that it is not true). If we were to ask the artist, the pillow retails for about 165$, he would probably say that he was fascinated with combining current zeitgeist (he also has a pillow that simply says Drugs!)with a classic form of expression. And I think he would be right. It is undeniable that being fat and body obsession is almost all-encompassing in the western society. He is not saying he agrees with the quote, he is making an artistic comment on the fact that a lot of people do. What do you think?

I'd almost rather have a knowing dictator with a few well educated advisors than mass-dictatorships from voters who decide who to vote for from 'how personable' a candidate seems, or whether they are a good (grizzly) mom.
People tend to complain about the populism of politics, the smear campaigns, and general 'politization' of decisions. But what we have to remember is that these people cater to us. We get exactly what we vote for and what we respond to (see for example the staggering price in ad buys in papers revealing scandals as opposed to those leaving column inches for actual relevance).
Politicians play a game, but by standing idly by, we accept the rules, and sometimes even make them. If you let yourself get affected by a smear campaign, of course that is what they'll run. If you turn off the TV when they get to heavy on economics, of course they're going to dumb it down. But guess what, economics is complicated. You're failure to understand it does not make you a failure, but your failure to vote for the man or woman just because they say something you don't understand, does.
Luckily, for all us who have a hard time deciphering macro and micro economies, recessions, and Paul Krugman's dry wit have The Economist, Time magazine, CNN, and google to help us.
Not using those tools to understand the world you're living in is basically dancing the conga on the graves of the men and women who fought and died to give us freedom of speech, the right to vote, and the right to participate on one level or another, in the way our country is run. Democracy, for most people in this world, is not a human right, but a privilege. If you have it, appreciate it. A privilege can be taken away.
